With speed killing more people on Queensland roads than ever before, agency BCM and the Cutting Edge VR team were tasked by the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) to come up with a media solution that conveyed the repercussions that speeding can have. As Sound Supervisor and Designer, together with Director Tori Garret (Two Little Indians) we collaborated through all stages of pre-production, production, and post-production to create the 5min film that takes the viewer on a POV journey through two parallel storylines that ultimately collide. Through a combination of on-set ambisonic and traditional lapel/boom/bug mic recordings, ADR, voice-over, post-sunk foley and spatial sound design, the soundtrack aims to gently guide and transport the viewer and their focus throughout the narrative. The realism of the piece is intended to tap into human emotional contagion, resulting in the viewing feeling the affects of speed first hand.
