Something that’s not obvious from watching the ad is that the musical elements had not been arranged or scored prior to post-production.

With a wide variety of packaging products at our disposal, hours of loops were recorded on set with up to 8 microphone channels rolling.

The challenge for the sound design team was to glue these together in a way that became musical, continuously evolving to serve the whimsical tension of the narrative.

With the exception of a kick drum that comes in and out, there is absolutely no supplemental noise; everything in the final score was recorded using a product on set.

EQ, pitch and layering manipulations allowed the recorded elements to take on rich tonal instrument-like qualities.

Our intention was to create a vibrant, analogue, mechanical soundscape that celebrated the spirit of improvisation.
