Something that’s not obvious from watching the ad is that the musical elements had not been scored prior to editing.
The talent had a click track in their ear and played a variety of different patterns on a variety of different instruments on set.
This resulted in hours of loops, with up to 8 microphone channels and three cameras recording.
It was my job as the editor to find the standout musical moments, and glue them together in a way that worked with the character beats of the underlying story.
Through careful selection and arrangement of both audio and visual elements, a feeling of constant escalation was achieved, allowing the whimsical tension in the idea to shine.
