The Brisbane Powerhouse autumn 2020 program guide cover illustration was set to highlight the Brisbane Comedy Festival and the exciting entertainment the Brisbane Powerhouse hosts. When designing this piece it was important to reveal Brisbane Powerhouse’s distinctive character through telling a fun, engaging and slightly ridiculous story. The Brisbane Comedy Festival is represented in the offbeat laughter that the mismatched robot exhibits through his smiles and tower of TV screens.
The illustration uses the tones and dusky vibes of autumn in Brisbane whilst providing a nod to the pooches on their daily walks and Brisbane River creatures existing beside the venue, depicted through the laughing dogs, fish-like fins and roses that bloom in autumn in New Farm Park. The graphics were then used across the whole Brisbane Powerhouse on external billboards, posters and as decals inside the building.
