The brief was to create a soundtrack that resonated with the ’real punter’, not your ’once in a blue moon better’. It needed to be understated yet impactful, authentic not exaggerated.
The voice that drives the narrative was specifically cast for his naturally rough tone and directed in such a way to feel authentic, as though coming from a ’real punter’. From the opening sound of a thoroughbred’s hooves pounding down the straight, the sound design was to feel selective yet precise evoking a sense of anticipation and excitement. Each sound was crafted and placed to articulate the visuals while at the same time to rhythmically synchronize with the steadily building musical arrangement.
