Approximately 100 million poppers (LPB: Liquid PaperBoard Containers) are sent to landfill in Queensland every year. LPB recovery rates through Containers for Change are significantly lower than other material streams, with many people not realising they are recyclable.
Containers for Change wanted to connect with families, typical consumers of poppers, to raise awareness of recycling LPB through the scheme. Fusing educational elements of recycling and waste issues within the fun of gameplay, we created a mobile web game to engage kids with proper popper recycling.
Using the Popper Patrol characters helped to connect the game to the broader campaign and give greater impact to the overall message – you can recycle poppers and save them from a life in landfill. Leaderboards were included to promote friendly competition between students and increase playtime.
