The Common Good

One of the biggest challenges that charities face is how to make people’s donations feel tangible and meaningful.

This was especially true for The Common Good, because medical research can often take years for the benefits to become apparent.

Our solution was to quantify the cost of a single hour of research ($44) to create a virtual currency called ‘Time’, and combine that with real-time technology to provide a personalised and compelling way to directly involve donors.

By integrating thecommongood.org.au website with Goa’s digital billboards via a custom API, we displayed donors’ contributions in real-time such that anyone could stand in front of a billboard, donate on their phone, and see their name come up in lights mere seconds later.

Additionally, donors received a real-time notification via SMS when the hour of research they sponsored was being used by The Common Good’s medical research teams.
