The way we talk to teens about road safety isn’t working: road trauma is still the leading cause of death among young Australians. So we decided to do something about it.
Roadset is a progressive web app that turns the traditional teaching model on its head, dispensing with the usual preaching and scaremongering in favour of a narrative-driven approach, conversational tone of voice and relatable characters. It taps into teens’ existing behaviours and psychological drivers, using gamified interactions, humorous animation sequences and familiar UX patterns to deliver learning outcomes.
From the start, we knew we wanted to use animation as a central communication tool. Our teen user testing group helped us to evolve and stress-test our cast of characters and develop our lo-fi animation style. Then, our crack team of scriptwriters, illustrators and animators got to work, building out comic scenarios and an appealing world for them to inhabit.
