Despite the millions spent on road safety awareness programs, road trauma remains the leading cause of death among young Aussies. So when ARSF were awarded funding to develop a road safety education tool for Year 9 students, they knew they needed to completely rethink their approach. Our challenge was to help them do just that – and transform their broad brushstroke vision into a thoughtfully-designed digital solution that could change behaviour and save lives.
Roadset is a progressive web app that turns the traditional teaching model on its head, dispensing with preaching and scaremongering in favour of a narrative-driven approach, a conversational, non-authoritative tone of voice and relatable characters who feel more like peers. It taps into teens’ existing behaviours and psychological drivers, using immersive, gamified interactions, humorous animation sequences and familiar UX and design patterns to deliver learning outcomes that align with the Australian curriculum.
