Sticks & Stones, a project sponsored by Google and led by the multi-award-winning charity Spur:org, is devoted to making the Internet a more empathetic space. Through data and storytelling, it amplifies understanding about the origin, impact, and experiences of harmful content online.
We were engaged to craft a brand identity and creative direction that would reflect their vision. Our inspiration was the project’s name, leading us to develop a visual identity using blocks and spheres. Through strategic layouts and movements, these elements demonstrate the ’cause and effect’ of words in the digital sphere.
Our choice of a subdued Untitled Serif wordmark ensured the emphasis remained on the powerful stories being told. In reflecting the complexities of online communication, we adopted a monochrome palette symbolising the grey areas of understanding online dialogue’s impacts. Splashes of colour were introduced through portrait photography and gel lighting, underlining individuality within the digital community.
